Hmm… 🤔

Actually not too unlikely, as they recently moved all their GitHub stuff from llk to scratchfoundation, so it makes sense they’d like to do the same for URLs. It will be very weird to change my URL habits, though…

they also recently removed (almost) all mentions of MIT from the website and replaced them with links to the Scratch foundation.

Yeah. They were off of MIT for a while, pleasantly they decided to actually make that more obvious now.

*apparently

however, it also might hurt their ability to attract schools/teachers, because they are now just like any other organization and are no longer associated with a highly-respected educational institution.

Very true - Also, I don’t have anything to back this up, Scratch being an .edu is probably also the reason many school filters haven’t blocked it? They could very much block it saying it’s a games site.

that’s definitely a valid concern! (the .edu was also probably good for advertising to parents.) especially now, in the age of scratch being full of generic platformers and users who do not actually create anything, it could be seen as non-educational.

i mean there probably will be a redirect (since there are thousands of comments/projects with links referencing the old urls)

Sure, but I should probably still get used to using the actual links then (when linking to some site in forum posts and such)
