your post won’t reach anyone unless they follow you. if you want others to see it, then liking your own post can get it onto the “trending for today” option on the explore page, and then people can discover you and your posts grow, etc. you can also follow people, comment on their stuff, and typically people might follow you back and have a look at your stuff.

a commonly suggested feature is a page that lists the newest posts from the community. theres one for admins (like me) but the signal to noise ratio is currently pretty bad.

im so used to social medias like instagram where a post wont reach anyone unless they follow you . reddit is the only exception where usually there are a few people who respond.
