so i was reading discord hate (username update) on reddit (not a redditor btw) and saw this comment and am actually scared on how much of a possibility this could be:
Let's be real, the discriminator system will be back once this blows up, but as a nitro feature.
like think about it, here’s the cycle: discord user doesn’t get the username they want → discord user buys nitro to get username#0001 → discord user now has to continue buying nitro so their name doesn’t revert back to usernamewastaken or whatever → discord user doesn’t get the username they want

VERY LATE RESPONSE (i know)
this would most likely be something they’re going to do. and let’s be real, all discord nitro features will be free in ~5 or more years… especially profile-related options — since there’s just plugins and client mods that let you use profile themes for free using the bio encoding stuffs. nitro for $10 is terrible, nitro for $3 is worse, and nitro for $5 was honestly better (custom discrim, emojis, and animated profile pic, better than nitro basic)
discord is slowly becoming a platform for everything (yes, even onlyfans spammers) and the new features make it feel more like a platform for monetizing and not for hanging out (i will NOT, NOT buy a stupid server subscription to talk to others!), basically the new patreon.
media channels, and server subscriptions are terrible lol — there’s servers that force you to pay $5 to talk in them, which is sad.
guilded has more things than discord, like gradient role-colors, and being realistic, if discord implements that you’ll prob need a boost level 2 - 3 server. guilded is just dead and nobody uses it… and the ui is bad honestly — but it has potential… like free nitro features and other things.
