Elon Musk says terms like “cisgender”and “cis” are now considered “slurs” on Twitter and will not be tolerated.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Elon never said that you can't say the word. He said that repeated harassment would be banned. The only thing he said about the word cis is that it was considered a slur. You can still say many slurs on Twitter (such as the N word)

i’m honestly just wondering what you’re reasoning is, since gender and its traits (female/male/masculine/feminine) are social constructs… There’s no biological rule that says your gender (how you present/identify yourself to society and the norms/traits you embody) is linked to your biological sex as far as I know?

It’s not my reasoning, it’s my mums. I don’t really have too much of a viewpoint on this as it’s such a confusing situation for me. But im presenting the thoughts on why biological females can find “cis” offensive

so should trans females find “trans” offensive? and should white americans find “white” offensive? black americans are called black all the time? (trans women are referred to as trans in situations where it’s irrelevant all the time too. i think it’s important to see labels like these in a balanced way 😊

no, just understand that one is the majority and one is the minority.

that’s why I mentioned the black/white Americans thing. Being a majority doesn’t make you more or less American or more or less woman and it doesn’t make your use of the word woman more legitimate ☺ (I don’t want to argue with your mom’s opinions, but I think a lot of people who hold strong opinions on harmless things like these can be overreacting or thinking that a problem exists when it really doesn’t.)

there are more important issues facing both trans and cis women (gender discrimination), domestic violence, employment disparities) that people should focus on rather than a label whose purpose is to clear up ambiguity. 🙂

No need for the emojis. Comparing race to gender makes no sense since gender links into other factors, like sex. This is not harmless to her, this is offensive to her. Not everyone is going to have the same viewpoint as you do

But no, gender definitely can and does tie into sex.

but not always. women can present more or less masculinity, correct?

What? How is this even relevant?

because the word “woman” and other terms relating to being female are defined by society, not by biology. someone isn’t inherently masculine just because of their sex. getting upset over society labeling (men and women) with cis or trans when it’s important to make a distinction doesn’t make much sense.

And by that dinstinction being females being called females and trans females being called trans females 😊😘😉😎😁
