yeah, i don't think custom logos for holidays would be a good idea (it's too political). but i think custom logos for other topics could be interesting (similar to google doodles)
I know, but holidays like New Years and such should be done.
Also, back when they first did this, they did stuff like Columbus Day, the 4th of July and President’s day ones posted above, and Christmas. The political world was very different back in 2007.
