A few main things - firstly, there was less of conflict and more of "we need to get past this". That's the consequence of giving characters the powers of gods. As well as that, many, many characters were introduced because they needed to fill an arbitrary position. The new council is random, underdeveloped, and a deus ex machina for something that isn't even necessary to happen.
This last point happens over and over. The curse that made people animals was lifted (Leon ugly 
) even though it wasn't an issue that needed to be resolved. In fact, most of the issues that were resolved were issues just made in this book, not tying up loose ends from the rest of the series. Ikol's character is inconsistent and provides no challenge to overcome.
Finally, the sudden addition of a concept that stone keepers have specializations seems out of place. Overall, the ideas and direction of the story were confused, and after so many years of waiting I am disappointed that it has come to this.
