as an outsider to us politics, why do both of the main parties barely talk about the working class and always try and pander to the “middle class”

46% of americans are working class, that's quite a sizable amount (and that's self-identification, i’m sure many “middle class” people are telling that to themselves to feel better as they are higher up on the heirarchy that capitalism necessitates)

well, no.. the source i’m looking at shows 46% of americans self-identify as working class, 52% as middle or upper-middle class and 2% as upper class. there's no overlap there?
That’s probably because of the different meanings of working class. I meant working class as in “people who are employed in manual or industrial work”.
the working class is simply anybody working who doesn't have a significant personal stake in the ruling class, and the working class needs to unite against the ruling class
