Since linear scoring is bad, how about a logarithmic one:

  • 10 dB: This is the best of the best. Nothing can beat this.

  • 8 dB: This is very good!

  • 6 dB: That’s nice.

  • 5 dB: Eh, it’s fine.

  • 4 dB: It’s a bit lacking.

  • 3 dB: You need to do better than this.

  • 0 dB: Bleh.

  • -Infinity dB: This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

How people perceive scores:

  • 10/10: This is the best of the best. Nothing can beat this.

  • 9/10: This is very good!

  • 8/10: Hey, that's nice!

  • 7/10: Uh, it's fine.

  • 6/10: You need to do better than this.

  • 5/10: You need to do better than this.

  • 4/10: Bleh.

  • 3/10: Bleh.

  • 2/10: Bleh.

  • 1/10: Bleh.

  • 0/10: Bleh.

This shows us that linear scoring is bad.
