SAVE CONGESTION PRICING
Congestion pricing is NYC’s plan to reduce traffic and fund the MTA by adding a toll driving into the CBD. It will result in cleaner air, safer streets, better transit, and less traffic for drivers who need to drive. It encourages drivers to take transit or drive at off-peak hours.
Gov. Kathy Hochul CANCELED congestion pricing just 25 days before it was set to go into effect. She said that it would “create another obstacle to our economic recovery.”
Opponents of congestion pricing say that congestion pricing is expensive and hurts low and middle class New Yorkers, as well as disabled New Yorkers. Many say that they as a resident in Manhattan they should not have to pay to drive home.
However, there are discounts for low income New Yorkers, and exemptions for disabled New Yorkers. Many say that it benefits the rich and harms the poor and working class. Additionally, many say that people from Staten Island can’t take transit because it doesn’t exist.
To the argument of driving home from residents of the CBD, it encourages residents to park uptown and take transit down if they can’t or don’t want to pay the toll. It’s not ideal, but it helps create less traffic.
I think that most importantly, less traffic saves lives. Emergency vehicles in NYC are often stuck in gridlock in the moments were seconds count. Congestion pricing and less traffic allows emergency services to reach their destinations faster.

so the fact for today is that most nyc subway stations have this green lamp on the outside. the station entrances you see more frequently (with just stairs that go down and a green fence around them) have these lamps on the corners, but i think it’s cool when other stations, like this one (96th street on the 1, 2, 3) also have them!
not all stations have these, particularly some new modern ones, but it’s interesting when some stations (like the hoyt-schermerhorn station on the a, c, g) that are modern incorporate it into a modern design. (see image https://ddp-ny.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/210-Livingston.jpg )

beware of bike passenger rides you will find outside of broadway shows and other tourist attractions and in central park. these are very expensive! they usually charge $6/minute and try to convince you to upgrade to a higher price.
i do have respect for these people as they are hustling and making it work in one of the most expensive places to live on earth, but be warned that the bill at the end will be very high.

nyc has a sanitation rating posted for every restaurant. this is required to be displayed in a place people can see, like the front door. the grades are A, B, C, and Grade Pending.
understand that if you enter a restaurant that isn’t an A rating, the health department has found health violations! examples are rodents in food or non-food areas, improper food handling, etc. if a restaurant is “Grade Pending” it’s possible the restaurant is also unsanitary too.

people selling tickets outside the staten island ferry are trying to scam you. it’s free.
nyc fact/tip #20:
nyc has a great public transit system, subway and bus. it’s the best in north america. but, that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. it’s far from it.
here are things that are bad about the nyc subway and bus:
metrocard machines make you want to bring latex gloves so you can use them without touching that nasty grease and who knows what on the screen
when you miss the train and realize the next one is in like 30 minutes
not understanding what they are saying across the pa system on the train so you don’t realize the train is actually express or skipping a station until it’s too late
card being declined on the omny reader so you are barred from using it until you pay back, and then you pay back on the website, and then it says you need to re-activate your card to use omny again, but there’s NO BUTTON to do that, so you email the customer support and they never respond (besides the robot a few days later), and now you can’t log into your account on the website and don’t want to call the live customer support (because you hate calling).
i can’t read a bus map. way too many lines and stops for me, just use google maps. (not a problem with nyct but with myself lol)
when you refill your metrocard and it charges you but the money never goes on the card so it just robbed you
when the metrocard machine only accepts cash or is broken all together
