SAVE CONGESTION PRICING

Congestion pricing is NYC’s plan to reduce traffic and fund the MTA by adding a toll driving into the CBD. It will result in cleaner air, safer streets, better transit, and less traffic for drivers who need to drive. It encourages drivers to take transit or drive at off-peak hours.

Gov. Kathy Hochul CANCELED congestion pricing just 25 days before it was set to go into effect. She said that it would “create another obstacle to our economic recovery.”

Opponents of congestion pricing say that congestion pricing is expensive and hurts low and middle class New Yorkers, as well as disabled New Yorkers. Many say that they as a resident in Manhattan they should not have to pay to drive home.

However, there are discounts for low income New Yorkers, and exemptions for disabled New Yorkers. Many say that it benefits the rich and harms the poor and working class. Additionally, many say that people from Staten Island can’t take transit because it doesn’t exist.

To the argument of driving home from residents of the CBD, it encourages residents to park uptown and take transit down if they can’t or don’t want to pay the toll. It’s not ideal, but it helps create less traffic.

I think that most importantly, less traffic saves lives. Emergency vehicles in NYC are often stuck in gridlock in the moments were seconds count. Congestion pricing and less traffic allows emergency services to reach their destinations faster.

any other new yorkers on wasteof?

people love to bash the nyc subway, but it’s the best in north america and i think it’s great. there are problems for sure but it’s so vast and works well. improvements can be made, but what they have so far, keeping up a 100+ year old subway system is very impressive.

there are 617,000 licensed dogs in nyc.

that’s more than how many people live in wyoming.

ask nyc questions before i’m no longer a certified new yorker

congestion pricing is going to effect in nyc on june 30.

this means if you enter 60th street to lower manhattan (excluding highways) you have to pay a toll that depends on the time and you’re vehicle.

the goal is to reduce gridlock and raise more money for the mta to build better transit, as well as encourage people to use public transit. average speeds in the congestion zone is 7.1 mph!

will it work? idk. london has congestion pricing and still the worst traffic in the world. but maybe more mta money? if they can manage it right?

nyc fact #31:

grand central terminal is one of the most famous train stations in the us, but did you know that the only trains that go to it are commuter trains?

if you wanted to take an amtrack or something, you would be going to penn station.

grand central terminal only has trains coming from commuter towns in new york state and connecticut.

not too into basketball but knicks.

and for rangers vs islanders: rangers all the way

lmaoo average new york behavior

one time my friend (not a new yorker) came to visit and looked at a high person having a meltdown and then they were like screaming at her and she was horrified

When I was in NYC I heard a white dude say the n word and I whispered to my friends “did I hear that right” and then he started screaming “YEA U HEARD THAT RIGHT” and trying to fight me

nyc advice:

don’t make eye contact with anyone. you never know what’s going to happen. if someone approaches you (especially on the train), look at the ground, or really anywhere but them. if you do this, you will probably be fine.

there’s nothing to do in nyc grrrr

i never get the showtime people when i go on the train. only high people :(
