wasteof.money is legit - don’t know how I didn’t find it sooner, but it’s got to be my favorite social platform now. All we need now is for it to be open-sourced - looking at you @jeffalo
I know some people like the idea of something decentralized like Mastodon, but I just find it confusing ;-;
technically it is open source, just copy the code out of devtools and hope you don’t get caught
Not exactly - the code has been bundled with Nuxt.js and Webpack and is therefore pretty much unreadable.
It's completely open source! In the sense that 3 people have access to it.
I'm sure there's an older version of the new, closed-source code base lying around for anyone to see on the internet, I had some trouble cloning it sometimes. But you won't find it.
an older version of the website is at https://github.com/jeffalo/wasteof.money
the reason that the current version is not FOSS is really just because i’m very protective of my stuff, and i wouldn’t be able to fight the battle if someone stole my code anyways.
but anyways i believe in open sourcing (public domain?) once a project is ‘over’, so that will probably happen eventually.
Have you looked into licensing your code? If you find an open-source license that keeps your own control and ownership over the code, GitHub will copyright strike anyone who steals the code. I'd really love to be involved with the development of this platform!
