Some people have been telling me that his first quote is unrelated to the second quote, but I believe it is, since in both of them he said it “was the only way he could think of to defend vast armies of bots”

He says in both statements they are the only defense he could think of to combat bots, so if the statements were different, he would know 2 proposed defenses to combat bots, not 1. This is why I think that the 2 statements are interlinked with eachother and he was talking about a lower priced, premimum subscription all along, and that he was originally unclear.
Lads, I dislike Elon just as much as the next wasteof user, but this isn’t true.
People are just misinterpreting his comment. He just said that there may be a new tier of Twitter preminum that costs less.

The reasoning that this proposed new lower tier of premium may happen is to combat bots, which was also mentioned in the original quote that people are alarmed over (people saying this quote is saying about putting twitter behind a paywall)

The reasonings correlating on both the quotes makes me believe he was originally talking about a lower, cheaper tier all along, and that he was just unclear.

look it’s elon he could very well be meaning the first thing and no onewill ever have a damn clue
that's what i mean. trying to interpret what he means seems futile. he can correct the 35+ journalists who may have misreported something if he wanted to by just posting a correction/clarification tweet (especially with something so sensitive to his business: hundreds of millions of people think they will have to start paying)but he hasn't.
I think dertermenter is right, but that he hasn’t explained since he wants the attention. We will see what he does, I guess?
yeah, i have a feeling one of the only sane people left at twitter will let him know that that decision (which would kick off 99.99% of twitter users) is bad for the business lol
