interestingly, the name of the bird probably comes from the country!

the bird was being traded around in Europe and Asia at the time, and nobody really knew where it came from. so most european languages have a different name for it, like in france where they thought it came from india, so they called it “dinde”. in england, i guess it was commonly thought that the bird came from turkey, so that’s what it’s called in english today!
