sorry for the 373927296 replies but this devils lake place is somewhere ive gone every year since i was born. great place for hiking/sight seeing (east bluff trail).
south of it there is a state recreation area great for urbex (old military complex on full public property)…
don’t recommend the beach there but it is amazing for camping
June is a possibility 
Camping is what I’ve been trying to look for though, so I don’t have to find hotels. I was thinking to end my first full day of driving somewhere in Wisconsin so it might actually work well. My main goals are further west but I still do want to enjoy Wisconsin and Minnesota a little while I’m passing through (I figure I can try to get through Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, as fast as possible)
Devil’s Lake has some of the best camping. We do Electric camping (we have a big camper, you could call it glamping), but there are two electric camping campgrounds and one non electric. We camp there for two weeks every year in June, so huh
All I’ll have is my car and my tent so I just need a good spot for the night
