what do you disagree with? do you think there should be no limits? i think having no limits encourages creating reposts just to make the chain longer and not to constructively add to a conversation/discussion…

what’s wrong with creating reposts just to make the chain longer?

it makes posts a bit less meaningful when you aren’t adding to a conversation/using reposts for their intended purpose. why not use comments in this case, which do not show up on peoples’ feeds?

Also it’s a pain to scroll through and makes it harder to find the original post in the chain

I don’t care about the original post. And scrolling through was already a pain when everyone was talking about blaze (nobody needed to care that much for that long), so it’s definitely a matter of preference.

it makes posts a bit less meaningful when you aren’t adding to a conversation/using reposts for their intended purpose.

Yeah, this is exactly the reason why I hate empty reposts. There’s nothing constructive going on there, even with my definition of constructive.

meaning and humor are both but inventions of the human psyche, and can be whatever we make them to be

yeah but can you not use comments when you're going to make so many reposts?

yeah, but you can just unfollow people who do this

If your definition of unconstructive requires a conversation, 90% of wasteof reposts that aren’t repost chains would still be unconstructive anyway. I have a much vaguer definition of constructive that includes this kind of thing.

Yes, this is copy pasted from the other reply.

at least with normal empty reposts, there is a purpose (to draw attention to something you support/agree with). with these long repost chains, the only goal is to make the longest chain possible endlessly

The goal is to take the funny thing and make more funny thing out of it. I don’t even like this particular repost chain, the ones I like are where the reposts are more distinct from each other, but I can still recognize the basic structure here.
