Now the iPhone 13-16, Galaxy S22-25, Galaxy A15 (a phone that costs less than US$100!!), and Galaxy A16 all can do satellite texting (including RCS, which Apple’s one doesn't support afaik) using carrier-based satellite service using Starlink. At least in New Zealand, you can get the Galaxy A15 or A16 (the A1x is the 2nd cheapest Galaxy phone) and be on the cheapest Vodafone prepay plan and have satellite texting. They are also saying calling and data will be supported one day. That's insane considering how expensive traditional satellite phones cost!
