google sucks
i got google photos for the editing features, and it automatically backed up my photos
now google’s forcing me to pay otherwise i lose access to my photos

You can then off auto backups, and it won't take access away from your photos, you just won't be able to back them up
Yeah but I can’t remove my backed up photos from the drive without deleting them from my phone too
yes you can just use the web app (photos dot google dot com) on your phone and computer and delete them from there.
No Google photos is terrible if it's not on a Pixel. I had it on my Samsung tablet along with Samsung's Gallery and it was using over 1.1GB of storage on the 32GB tablet. It was also laggy and no better than Samsung's Gallery.
