A few times a year I meet up with people in my field from around the area and so we had a competition to design a logo for our group. I was the only one who made one by the initial deadline so they extended the competition and made a bunch of ai logos so there would be variety to vote on and today one of the generated ones was picked over mine ๐Ÿ˜”

Less than a month until world cup!

Mini vacation (part 4)

Hughlett Point off the Chesapeake Bay

Campsite

From the lake I drove up to the Northern Neck Peninsula. I made a brief stop on a whim to a state nature preserve which was really nice. I was expecting just a short boardwalk but the trail dumped out onto the beach, and there was no one there which was awesome.

From there I went to Belle Isle State Park where I spent the night. I reserved one of the campsites out on a point that you can only get to by foot or boat, so I strapped all my stuff in my kayak and proceeded to fight the wind for a second time. The spot was worth it in the end though and by the time I had everything set up and was getting dinner ready I had a nice sunset to enjoy.

Mini vacation (part 3)

Lake Drummond

Great Dismal Swamp

On the second day I left the Eastern Shore and went down to Lake Drummond, which is effectively the only natural lake in all of Virginia. I brought my kayak so I got to paddle along the shore for a few hours until the wind suddenly picked up and I had to fight the lake to get back to my car. Iโ€™d been dreaming of visiting this place for a long time so it was a bit surreal to be there and see how big everything is. Very cool and I hope to go back sometime.

To get to the lake you have to go through the Great Dismal Swamp which, despite what the name might have you believe, was not dismal at all! Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s probably miserable in the summer but right now in the spring it was quite pleasant and peaceful.

Mini vacation (part 2)

Concrete ships

Black snakes

Beach

I spent my first night at Kiptopeke State Park which was a very pleasant surprise. Cool ships, lovely trails, lots of reptiles, and I was largely able to avoid people. I had a great time
