The Scratch Team has experimented with AI image generation for Scratch in the past. However, there are also many downsides, including ethical concerns arising from AI images using copyrighted material, biases present in AI which reinforce harmful stereotypes, the ease of creating inappropriate content, and the difficulty of accessing AI. AI? Really? AI? They want to inspire creativity and they are including AI? How on earth will AI help kids create? If anything, it will stop the learning process because, instead of creating art or code that is creative and requires skill, kids will just write a prompt.

a new position on the scratch foundation’s website went up recently, and the job description confirms that scratch 4.0 is in development. says it’ll feature a “re-imagined online community and creative ai”… whatever that means
no word of a release date, but that’s understandable. i’m actually kind of excited for this, i feel like scratch’s online community hasn’t been working super well recently so hopefully this’ll fix some of those issues. as for the ai thing… please no. so many things can go wrong with that…

That's slightly reassuring to hear. My reaction was based mainly on the fact that AI has become a harmful buzzword synonymous with "generative AI," and it's what I expected it to be on a mainly creative platform. I'm excited to see what is going to be added in 4.0, since there are many limitations in 3.0.
