To be honest, even I don’t blame you for saying that. We’re trying, but life happens. It’s not easy balancing work, life, college, and running meower. All I hope is that maybe one day you’d consider giving us a second chance.
i made a meower account a little while ago and never used it again. The UX and UI are…bad, to say the least, and it’s just a site full of little kids who think they’re so cool because they lied about their ages, plus kids that think they’re gods at coding because they’re using scratch, for fuck’s sake. i’ve had scratch since early 2019, and, while it did serve to spark my love for programming, it is very clear now that scratch is not really “real” programming. it’s a good learning tool, sure, but beyond spending months and months on a single project (like griffpatch does), it’s really the most basic you can get. python is harder. so, because of this, creating a social media platform targeted at users of a site comprised of mostly under-13s, was not the best idea. the moderation on meower is gigashit, and the community frequently gets out of hand. the platform needs some major improvements.
You’re right. Coming from someone that has spent a lot of time working on Meower, it isn’t in a great spot. We want to make it better, it’s just hard with limited resources and the team being busy with other things in life. We know the UI isn’t great, we know the community can be toxic and is filled with a lot of young people from Scratch, and we know our moderation isn’t the best. The community thing is a bit unfortunate, we started out on Scratch, that’s where we’ve got our community from. The problems with moderation are mainly from not managing the moderation team correctly - almost no guidance whatsoever. We have recently promoted someone to manage the moderation team and they will help manage and guide the team better, but changes will take time. The UI and other software related things are being worked on, but again, those will take time.
I also just want to make our policy on underage users clear. Users under the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction or the age stated in COPPA (13), are not allowed to use Meower if they don’t have parental consent. We have always had that policy, but we have been pretty bad at enforcing it in the past - we have been enforcing it more over the last couple of weeks. The parental consent thing is a bit iffy and are probably going to remove the option to use Meower below the age of 13 entirely.
actual W response. I still likely won't use the platform in the future but these are good changes and plans. keep it up
Got banned for a question, so sus and terrible moderation. The community on there is also chronically online and need to go outside
ah, that’s just some normal question without any bad intention damn
you were not banned for a question, you were banned for acting weird and i confused you with someone else who was also doing that
“Acting weird” is a shitty reason to ban someone, that’s an opinion
