I think using a YouTube frontend can bypass the “ad blocker-blocker”
iirc they're experimenting with the implementation of running ads on serverside (including the "no adblock because we want money empty your wallet plz" modal) by including the ads inside the video, so diff frontend will only work until that happens
i still to this day don't understand what people have against YouTube ads. they take away 10 seconds of your life, get over it.
I use ublock origin on desktop and nothing on mobile but I don’t really watch youtube on desktop
im tired of getting crypto ads and straight up suggestive material
even the FBI recommends using an ad blocker
even if this isnt youtube-specific, whenever you go on some websites, the amount of ads thrown at your face immediately is abysmal
i understand having an adblocker on your computer but tbh all I really get on mobile is some short political ads
Yeah, this makes me wonder. What percent of youtube users use adblock? Are they trying to crack down on like over 10% of their users. Or are they spending money to fight less that half a percent. I wouldn’t be surprised by either. i just dont know.
honestly I wanna say lots of ppl use adblock, but tbh I think it might be very few people, considering YT has a userbase in the billions. they probly got bored and just wanna do sum trolling bcus lets be honest, google already has the money, maybe im completely wrong but I doubt several million adblock users will significantly impact google financially
Yeah, for now, even with youtube’s detector, you can just click the “X” and it will go away. They will probably start enforcing it more down the line
it’s far, FAR too expensive for what you get, but what you do get (besides no ads) is awesome
thing I worry abt is that YT might start removing necessary features from the free version of YT so people have to start buying premium (I think this happened to repl.it)
if youtube keeps making poor decisions for free users, i hope the world migrates to a different video sharing site.
not to mention i’ll never forgive replit for making that decision. my discord bot had to be completely shut down because of it :(
yea the replit situation is so sad, but tbh I feel like google is not stupid, they know that fuking up YT would just be a horrible idea because they would lose the entire userbase like u said (despite that thats exactly what they seem to be doing so who the fuk knows)
at least google isn’t like twitch. they’ve made some very terrible decisions and because there are no good substitutes everyone can’t just pack up and leave
