having quit twitter entirely since the uk riots has done wonders for my sanity and general happiness. it was a anger machine designed to make me frustrated enough to keep scrolling just to feel emptiness once i closed it with no satisfaction or any sense of being informed.

It’s a bit difficult to avoid things that are everywhere, and even if you choose to ignore them, if you still see them they stay with you
twitter’s algorithm promotes political topics and posts so forcefully it’s effectively impossible to avoid them altogether. there’s heaps of political ads, trending topics summarized in a few words without context designed to get people to click, and political accounts constantly listed in recommendations. of who to follow. politics are never more than one click away over there, you’ll see ragebait or reactionary content regardless of whether or not you want to.
it's not just politics either. perrin already sorta pointed out a separate issue which is how twitter's algorithm forces political stuff onto your feed, Elon has made this even more of an issue since he boosts his own tweets to everyone, which are 99% politcal. but on top of that twitter has for a long time just been about negativity, even when Dorsey was in charge I would find that I would be fed drama or rage bait posts, and that's because anger is a very strong emotion that keeps you using the app to see people get dunked on and whatnot.
Fair enough mate elon post a other stuff is unavoidable but i think you can make it so less comes up by blocking, not interacting etc
