what are your opinions on people having accounts on wasteof for the pure purpose of advertising their own website that is a direct clone of wasteof?

on lilypad, you can post any kind of file less than 64 megabytes, rich text, direct messages, including to people on other platforms, links with preview, source code, plaintext and ansi colour codes, photosets, polls, anon asks, tags (roughly equivalent to topics, they're something like a mixture between tumblr tags and reddit flairs), and use emojis from mutant standard, built in packs, and packs from communities you're in. (maybe also twitch and discord later)

it's kinda easy to clear you i’m afraid. do better pookie! :3

we don’t need any like goal — the devs always make sure to write the worst code possible.

we clear you and we’re not even done cooking yet

Wow, we’re growing a lot more attraction on wasteof than X. Thanks to everyone who followed!! :)

being a creature > being a human

Rebrand I did for @lilypad, a social media site being developed by @lily. The logo is a loose combination of a lily pad and the generic social network icon you’ve likely seen plenty of times before. Took a few iterations to get this exactly right (working with circles can be hard sometimes), but got there in the end. A timeline of the drafts I did to get to this final logo can be found in the comments. 🏞️

the 3 “X”s problem

we currently have 3 “X”s - “X” itself, threads, and bluesky. we don't need any more “X”s. lilypad aims to be the third tumblr, making tumblr itself, cohost, and lilypad

what is an “X”?

an “X” is characterised by:

  • completely featureless black and white theme, rarely with small amounts of blue

  • owned by a huge corporation who are clearly focused on making large sums of money

  • incoherent or unsearchable branding

these tropes are often made fun of, but inexplicably draw large user bases.

then what makes a tumblr?

a tumblr is characterised by:

  • very distinct and coherent design style and theme

  • user-focused app (themes, content, asks, etc)

  • fun (mascots (see cohost’s eggbug), colour, brand accounts have a personality (see tumblr’s twitter))

conclusion

the world needs more tumblrs. go ahead and start a silly little wasteof clone, there are/were already a few (darflen, postLit). you might learn something new, and you'll definitely feel happier than scrolling the latest “X”.

what do you think of the logos?

i think i should remake every twitter shitpost on lilypad once it is finished

does the User object look easy to work with? (id is meow because there’s no database yet)
