I recently did a refresh of the brand of Super 8 Motels, which I hadn’t heard of until I saw a rebrand submitted as an entry to Brand Battle 6 (a competition I’m judging on Scratch currently). I liked their approach, which is quite different to the current Super 8 brand and my rebranding here. When I saw their project, they showed the companies logo history, which included Super 8’s original 1982 logo (which is no longer in use) and I got the idea to use it as a base to make a fresh retro look for Super 8. You might have seen quite a handful of brands taking past logos and modernising them for today (look at Burger King, Pepsi, Co-op, etc.), so I took inspiration from there for this project. Hope you like it! If you want to see the full thing, I’ll leave a link to it on my alt da-ta2 in the comments. Cheers!
I was asked by @grahamsh if I could rebrand their online agenda platform for students, called Ejenda. After a few reworks and other random concepts I landed on this, a calendar combined with the letter E. I was initially unsure of this design, so to test to see if people saw what I intended, I posted the logo to my Discord server ta’s hangout as well as the wasteof Discord, and luckily most of you saw what I intended (thank you for your feedback)! So I then moved onto adding a colour palette that felt professional while still giving a bit of personality too. Hope you like it!
Here's a rebranding I did for Album Of The Year, aka AOTY. It's a website that lets you rate, review, and discuss the latest music and also tons of releases from the past. It's pretty fun if you're into music like I am. However, the current branding is pretty boring, it's just a dark grey circle with "AOTY" written in it. So I decided to have some fun and put together a more fun and interesting branding. Initially this was gonna just be a UI design for a AOTY mobile app since there currently isn't one, but then I thought to myself "why not just also make a full branding presentation to complement the UI?" and thus began my mission to make one of my biggest branding projects ever, and it officially got out of hand. Anyway, I hope you like this! The full project is a whopping 28 slides in total! My largest project by sheer volume. If you wanna see it, check out the links in the comments or visit my website seanjw.com to find my Behance and Dribbble. I’m going to go back to working on other design stuff now that this is out of the way, lol.
As the election draws to a close, I think its time I share the branding I rapidly scrambled together over the span of this week for @Auriali’s Auri24 campaign, for those unaware Auriali is my alt account. The logo is based off of the normal Auriali logo with a new colour palette of red and blue and a star as the i’s dot instead of the usual 3-quarter circle. A modified Auriali logo to look like the US flag is used for the @Auri24 profile picture (which I own run btw) and a modified mesh gradient that looks again like the US flag. Other elements I made were the banners, a manifesto list, stickers (a ton of them), and other random things like a parody of the Obama campaigns “HOPE” poster. Credit to @Perrin for his P logo used in a few of the designs and for being my running mate. Lastly, thank you for voting for me, I’ll say more later on Auriali once the election officially ends. One last thing, my da-ta Scratch account turns 9 years old today, so that’s pretty neat. Anyway, hope you liked all the memes and goofy designs I threw together at breakneck pace over the last week, it was a ton of fun to do. 🩷
Here’s a branding for togethr, a branding agency thing (sorta) between me, @micahlt, and @perrin. It was originally on Scratch as a logo design service where we would make logos for people for free. It eventually died after some time, but we might be making a relaunch for it as a proper design agency (for the future when we’re more experienced, lol). Here’s the logo and a nice little banner thingy.
Here’s a branding I did for the new wasteof @live podcast. It’s based off of a logo that @siliconecb_ made. Was going for a cartoony kinda look that was fun and friendly while still looking clean. Plus, wanted colours that were bright and vibrant. Excited to hear the podcast once it releases!
An edgy design inspired by the lyrics and music of Seaforth by King Krule from their 2023 album Space Heavy. Trying a different style for my edgy designs, hope you like what I was going for! You can also find this design on my Behance, Instagram, and Scratch in the comments!
My alt account on Scratch called da-ta2 turns 8 years old today (older than many of Scratch’s users, lol). I made the account back in 2016 as a place to share more stuff that I felt didn’t fit da-ta, it is the only account to survive a purge of alt accounts I did back in 2019, where I deleted 2 alt accounts called da-ta3 and da-ta4 (creative I know). It is the second-oldest account I own, my oldest being da-ta. To celebrate, I thought I’d share the logo history of da-ta2, I hope you find it interesting!
A rebranding I did a little while ago for SparkShell by @radi8. I was asked if I could stick to the previous brand’s colours of yellow and green, so with that in mind I came up with the idea of putting a lightning bolt in between coding brackets to combine the idea of “spark” and coding, which hints at what SparkShell is and of course the spark part of its name. I went through quite a few revisions to get the colours just right so it would be readable on light and dark background as well as still being vibrant but also not too harsh. Happy with how this turned out!
Thank you ever so much for 100 followers here on wasteof! Just under two years ago I joined - what’s crazy to me is how fast this place has grown. I mean when I joined here we didn’t have a official Android app, nor was there the alpha version, beta had just barely launched, there was no wasteof extension being developed, nor were we on the cusp of a iOS app. Yet in just short of 2 years all of that has happened and is still happening. It’s also been lovely meeting you folks on here - its awesome to see how people come together to build this platform just for the fun of it, that’s something very few social media sites have. So, thanks for the support here, whether that’s on this account, my other account @Auriali or my memes on @thenewcreators that I spend far too long making. Onwards and upwards!
Rebrand I did for @lilypad, a social media site being developed by @lily. The logo is a loose combination of a lily pad and the generic social network icon you’ve likely seen plenty of times before. Took a few iterations to get this exactly right (working with circles can be hard sometimes), but got there in the end. A timeline of the drafts I did to get to this final logo can be found in the comments.
A collection of the logos I made during 2023 (and a few from 2022). You’ll probably recognise some of them since I did quite a few for those in this community. Thank you for letting me work on those brandings! I’d also like to thank you all for another wonderful year on wasteof, it’s been a blast. I made a more expansive project for my Logofolio 2023 on Scratch and other platforms, which you can find linked in the comments, I’d appreciate it if you’d have a look if you wish. See you in 2024!
Branding I made for the wasteof iOS app being developed by @oren. The colours are official Apple colours used in their products. I made one that is similar to the wasteof colours and a green one Oren asked me to make, which he ultimately chose. First time working with Apple guidelines in this way and first time I made a macOS style icon (the style introduced in Big Sur).
My Discord server called ta’s hangout turns 3 years old today, with 170+ members and over 1.2 million messages. Never would’ve expected for the server to get this far! Here’s the history of its branding over the years.
