do you americans really not have trains

comments

Trains exist here, but they’re far from the go-to method of travel.

we do, but they’re not really one of the main methods of transportation of people for long-distance travel. i personally like traveling on trains, but its usually very expensive (often much more expensive than planes). (obviously plenty of people use short-range public transportation such as subways in big cities)

m- more expensive than planes???

it sounds counterintuitive but the main reason is that train companies make more money from transporting goods such as coal, hay, etc. while transporting people has lower profit margins for domestic travel. it also takes longer to go by train, which obviously makes accommodations, food, etc. more expensive, especially for long distances (the U.S. is much larger than the U.K., making coordination of these types of trips more difficult, and meaning that people traveling domestically in the U.S. are traveling longer distances on average)

that’s fair i suppose, although the us would totally benefit with a good rail system

yeah we do D:

we do, but they’re used to transport coal and stuff

We do, they’re just not very nice, and train stations are a little sparse in some areas

we do, they just like derailing

We do, it’s just that a lot of people use cars over it even though it’s way easier to just take a train
