the simultaneous frailty and strength of the mortal human flesh perplexes me

on the one hand a mere cold can curse me with an inability to sleep and it’s a fucking microscopic virus, yet ive survived like 8 concussions and im still fine

in contrast, another thing is “the human spirit is indestructible”

there’s this idea of us as a species where we always rebound after tough times. but it’s false: hundreds of millions of people live in poverty. some people say (mostly conservative cishet white men) that it’s easy: you just need a job!

and then you can’t get a job to get yourself out of poverty because you’re poor and maybe a minority. and because of that you never got a good education because you could never pay for college or university.

and it’s like this for millions of people across generations.

i think capitalism is partly to blame, but only because it enabled the rich to put this kind of policy in place to let them discriminate against people. in a sentence, the rich—as they are now—are kind of assholes who only care about money, and getting rid of people they hate. and they will use that money to do so.

this has always been happening and in recent years has gotten much worse.

but i hope for a kinder future. as cringy as it sounds, we can be better people to each other—best friends, siblings, acquaintances, workers, queer people, disabled people, people of colour. we can and should be kinder to everyone. and yes, tax the rich.

if snazzle tracked those kind of statistics i’d post it here but i don’t want to store any—even anonymized—user data/statistics so it doesn’t

oh yeah snarple has an official wasteof account: @snarpledev (i think)

it is pretty cool but also sad to see what happened to it after white people got a hold of it

take blues for instance, where early examples are sung wistfully by black people on guitar, and then white people came along and made it about women or some shit

ngl similar stuff happens to any music when it gets picked up by a mainstream or at least larger audience: it gets turned into a product, not art

art is what those black guys with their guitars were making. they poured their heart and soul into their music. into their art. they had nothing and everyone was against them. so they turned to what they did have: the three (five? can’t remember) chords and the truth.

and all of modern music is based on that and they get none of the credit or recognition. today’s pop music is just a product, made to satisfy algorithms driven by engagement. it feels empty and soulless because its only purpose is to make money. and the og blues guys never got any of that.

i’m a musician of sorts and imo, that’s the worst possible thing that could happen to my stuff: being turned into a product. i just make music for my own enjoyment and as a creative outlet. i don’t do it for the money or the fame or anything. i make art for art’s sake.

and we need more stuff like that.

its crazy that all modern music was created by black people like damn

i wish i could just listen to music all day and never have to interact with the real world, but then i realise i would be broke all the time

i wish life had a pause button, so i could just freeze time when i want and get some rest without having to deal with the actual world
