new wasteof server has been ordered!
it has 128GB of ram and 9TB of raw storage (probably 6TB usable with the correct raid configuration) it’s going to be pretty exciting and a massive upgrade from the old dell optiplex i’m currently using
we kind of need it
especially if wasteof grows to be as big as any big social media
Pretty slow but i guess I'm in the us and used to Amazon prime and 2 day delivery and such
yeah an $80 used one from ebay. i ran out of storage so i was looking into getting another hard drive, and then i decided to upgrade to something long term
I still use one of those as my main computer I’m working on turning an old TiVo I have into a server
i use my dads old 3020 it’s better than the chromebook I was using before and he gave it to me for free which is good cause I can’t afford a new pc I spent all my money on ds/switch/3ds/gba games and systems
i thought it meant storage at first. that’s how much usable storage i have in my optiplex
That's super cool dude! Congrats! If you need funding to help support wasteof, like I've always said I'm definitely willing to donate :)
thanks!
the current plan is to put some ads on the front page of wasteof.money, or maybe i could use stripe to set up a premium plan of some kind. :)
Not sure how I feel about this but I understand that stuff like this costs money. As long as they aren’t invasive I’m fine with it.
If you do that could you also add another veteran tier, for old accounts, that gets some of the premium features for free.
Ads would be fine though. Heck, I would even turn off my adblock, to support the site.
I’m not sure how I feel about that but I would sure either turn off my adblocker or maybe you could set a patreon, I would donate :)
Never a big fan of ads, but I’m open to supporting in whatever way I can :)
Premium is better than ads (but not if its for removing them, maybe smth cool like adding your own buttons), but I understand that this kind of server is costly. Btw a) could you cover the costs by selling the loptap™ which you currently use as your server (yeah you definitely do)? b) how much will the new server cost?
the new server cost around 650 swiss francs (which are roughly the same as USD)
not really — its more like an investment because i’ll get a lot out of it (in terms of learning, and the ability to host more stuff)
If I recall correctly, Mozilla runs a service that pays websites without advertisements. I forget where to find it, though.
