US States ranked

Ranked by general “feel” of how it is like to be there (so may be biased by where in the state I’ve been). It also may be biased by how good my accommodations were while there. Only including ones I can remember visiting.

  • S Tier: North Carolina, Florida (don’t get mad), Montana (very bottom of the state)

  • A Tier: Virginia, Pennsylvania, Wyoming (northwest corner), Connecticut (wealthy part), Maine, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina coastal islands

  • B Tier: Georgia (south), Arizona and New Mexico (I don’t like arid flat places, they don’t feel right having lived among trees for my entire life)

  • C Tier: Massachusetts (Boston)

  • D Tier: South Carolina (I literally only drive through on the interstate)

I hope to get this list up to all 50 eventually.

The Mac turned 40 yesterday. I forgot to post this but my first personal Mac was a 2010 MacBook Pro. Still a super good computer (@/grunklebillsback has it now and it’s faster than his 2023 school chromebook!).

So I want to get the Alphafly 3s (when they restock in April). But I’m not sure it’s a great idea, for one thing they are meant for marathons specifically (They work for every distance but best on longer distances). So I might do better with a Vaporfly or other 5k specific shoe. Secondly, they’re $285. But, you can’t beat the hype of wearing the absolute best running shoes of all time. What do y’all think?

Edit: for those who don’t know what they are, the alphaflys are the best marathon running shoes ever made, the original version was used by Eliud Kipchoge to run a 1:59 marathon (not a world record though sadly) and gen 3 was used by Kelvin Kiptum to run a 2:00:35 world record marathon. And the vaporflys are like 1 level below the alphaflys in terms of performance and they are more general-purpose than the alphaflys.

Hey, I would greatly appreciate it if someone made a loading gif out of this icon:

it’s for the iOS app

Week 3/52

  1. I’m up to 60 miles in total this year. A little bit behind schedule but it’s been freezing and I’m gonna pick up the pace quite a bit in the XC season

  1. Going to release a beta of the wasteof app as soon as possible

  1. Did 1 hour of driving this week, I need 50 more hours in total and 8 more of nighttime driving

Like I said, January is always such a mid month.

Happy New Year everyone!

I spend too much time on wasteof. But of all the places on the internet, this is the only one that is worth coming back to multiple times a day.

Now, I present my goals for 2024. The goals are all specific and quantifiable, so I can measure if I complete them. Here they are:

  1. Run a 5k in under 20 mins by March, under 18 mins by August, and under 16 mins by November

  2. Run over 1500 miles in total

  3. Run a race every month - except January because I can’t find a single convenient race that month.

  4. Finish school early - I’m on track to finish 1-2 weeks early, so I want to keep, if not improve, that lead

  5. Bring the wasteof iOS app to feature parity with wasteof2 by July, and to parity with wasteof4 by November

  6. Do some other big coding project

  7. Read the book of John, taking it slowly through the book - Goal is 3-4 verses per day, John has 879 verses so it should take up the majority of the year

  8. Become (at least) friends with my crush. “Becoming friends” is defined as getting her phone number. I won’t see her until August, though and I barely know her. And I’m the most awkward person ever. We’ll see.

  9. Buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 10 when they come out.

  10. Get a driver’s license by August - I need 60 hours of driving practice in total, I have about 10 so far. I haven’t been trying though.

  11. Get a job.

  12. Repost this weekly with progress updates on what I’ve done to keep myself accountable.

2023 was the greatest year of my life. 2024 will be even better. Let’s get it.

This doesn’t really count, but I’m in the visionOS simulator right now. Technically the first post from this OS (but not from Vision Pro).

wasteof for iOS beta 🔜

Also, I added deletion of comments today. All we need is settings and simplifying the code.

We should all try to become FPCs on Scratch and then if anyone gets accepted do something funny with it

Just realized Scratch 3.0 came out over half a decade ago. Wow, I’m 16 and already feeling old.

I’m still waiting for the perfect moment to post this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1732348/regex-match-open-tags-except-xhtml-self-contained-tags/1732454#1732454 in response to someone on the scratch forums (edited to match the context of course)

Exactly what I meant to say but couldn’t find the words for

january got that L skibidi rizz with no dukedennis fanum tax

January has been the most L month so far. After the hype of the new year, I’ve been super lazy, it’s been freezing (so running is miserable), my room is an absolute mess, and I’ve just been down in general.

Time to start fixing it.
