I’m still waiting for the perfect moment to post this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/1732348/regex-match-open-tags-except-xhtml-self-contained-tags/1732454#1732454 in response to someone on the scratch forums (edited to match the context of course)

Exactly what I meant to say but couldn’t find the words for

january got that L skibidi rizz with no dukedennis fanum tax

January has been the most L month so far. After the hype of the new year, I’ve been super lazy, it’s been freezing (so running is miserable), my room is an absolute mess, and I’ve just been down in general.

Time to start fixing it.

Desktop browsers, ranked

Note: This is my testing on MacOS on Apple Silicon. May not be applicable for other OSes or platforms.

Chrome: Everyone’s default

+ Pros: Everything is tested in Chrome, so sites always work. Lots of extensions.

- Cons: Uses SO MUCH RAM. Mid developer tools. Chromium is kinda mid in general.

Arc: Basically reskinned Chrome

+ Pros: Well designed, having tabs on the side is so much smarter.

- Cons: Some features are hard to understand and not really needed. Chromium based, so see the cons of Chrome

Firefox: The dark horse

+ Pros: Haven’t tried it much but anything is better than Chromium. Made by a nonprofit. Good dev tools. Lots of extensions. Generally one of the best browsers.

- Cons: I don’t really know.

Opera GX: The weird kid

+ Pros: High performance (got over 400 in speedometer). Cool design. Ram limiter.

- Cons: Bloat. Also, it’s Chromium.

Safari: Overly hated on

+ Pros: Uses almost no energy on Apple silicon Macs. Simple design, no bloat. High performance. The best dev tools of any browser.

- Cons: Sites aren’t always tested for desktop safari (they are tested for mobile though). Not very many extensions (it supports chrome extensions with a rename but you need to have an Apple developer account to publish them).

My final ranking:

  1. Safari (for Mac users)

  2. Firefox (#1 if not using a Mac)

  3. Arc

  4. Chrome

  5. Opera GX

Happy New Year everyone!

I spend too much time on wasteof. But of all the places on the internet, this is the only one that is worth coming back to multiple times a day.

Now, I present my goals for 2024. The goals are all specific and quantifiable, so I can measure if I complete them. Here they are:

  1. Run a 5k in under 20 mins by March, under 18 mins by August, and under 16 mins by November

  2. Run over 1500 miles in total

  3. Run a race every month - except January because I can’t find a single convenient race that month.

  4. Finish school early - I’m on track to finish 1-2 weeks early, so I want to keep, if not improve, that lead

  5. Bring the wasteof iOS app to feature parity with wasteof2 by July, and to parity with wasteof4 by November

  6. Do some other big coding project

  7. Read the book of John, taking it slowly through the book - Goal is 3-4 verses per day, John has 879 verses so it should take up the majority of the year

  8. Become (at least) friends with my crush. “Becoming friends” is defined as getting her phone number. I won’t see her until August, though and I barely know her. And I’m the most awkward person ever. We’ll see.

  9. Buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 10 when they come out.

  10. Get a driver’s license by August - I need 60 hours of driving practice in total, I have about 10 so far. I haven’t been trying though.

  11. Get a job.

  12. Repost this weekly with progress updates on what I’ve done to keep myself accountable.

2023 was the greatest year of my life. 2024 will be even better. Let’s get it.

I know a lot of people out there scared they're gon' die

A couple of them thinking they'll be livin' in the sky

But while I'm here livin' man I gotta ask why, what am here fo' I gotta figure out

Waste my life no I gotta make it count

If Christ is real then what am I gonna do about

Everything in Luke 12: 15 down to 21; You've really gotta go and check it out

Paul said if Christ ain't resurrected we've wasted our lives; Well that implies that our life's built around Jesus being alive

Everyday I'm living tryin' to show the world why Christ is more than everything you'll ever try

Better than pretty women and sinning and living To get a minute of any women and men that you admire It ain't no lie

We're created for Him

Outta the dust he made us for Him

Elects us and he saves us for Him

Jesus comes and he raises for Him

Magnify the Father, why bother with something lesser; He made us so we could bless Him

To the world we confess Him, resurrects Him

So I know I got life; Matter fact better man I know I got Christ

If you don't see His ways in my days and nights: You can hit my brakes you can stop my life

Then I lost my rights I lost my life; Forget the money cars and toss that ice

The cost is Christ And they could never offer me anything on the planet that would cost that price.

You're trying to figure what to do with your life

If you make a lot of money hope you're doing it right

Because the money is God's you better steward it right

And stay focused, you ain't got no ride

Your life ain't wrapped up in what you drive

The clothes you wear, the job you work

The colour your skin, naw you're a Christian first

People get to living for a job

Make a little money start living for a car

Get 'em a wife a house kids and a dog

Then they retire they're living high on the hog

But guess what they didn't ever really live at all

To live is Christ and that's Paul I recall

To die is gain so for Christ we give it all

He's the treasure you'll never find in a mall

Your money your singleness marriage talent your time

They were loaned to you to show the world that Christ is Divine

That's why it's Christ in my rhymes

That's why it's Christ all the time

See my whole world is built around Him; He's the life in my lines

I refused to waste my life; He's too true to chase that ice

Here's my gifts and time 'cause I'm constantly trying to be used to praise the Christ

If he's truly raised to life

Then this news should change your life

And by his grace you can put your faith in place that rules your days and nights

We had an internal IRC (this was before Slack) and nobody thought about it. One day it went down, and traceroute had indicated it was in our server room; after checking every single server we could not find it, until someone noticed an ethernet cable that went through a run into the floor but didn't come back out. After opening the suspended floor we noticed a laptop running Solaris. That was our IRCd and the OS had an uptime of close to 8 years.

CHANGELOG:

Game Changes:

-New Empire Slots: 10 new empire slots have been made for new players to join.

-Border Expansion: The world borders have been expanded to include: Africa, Mongolia, Central Asia and half of Siberia.

-Policy Changes:

All policies have been deleted. From now on when expanding you may either conquer one province at a time that is 30,000-75,000 miles, and lose 7,000 troops each time you do so. Or you may conquer multiple provinces that total to 30,000 miles total and gain 3,000 troops.

-Major War Changes: A new feature has been added to help wars become more strategic as well as more balanced. Feature is:

  1. Generals, for the cost of 20,000 manpower each. A general is completely randomized and can either give a hefty multiplication bonus to your army in offesne and defense. A generals ranging bonuses are between 1x and 1.5x. Meaning, if your general had a defense bonus of 1.5x, a defending battalion of 100 troops could take on a battalion of 150 enemy troops, contrary to that, if your general has a decrease bonus of just 1x, a defending battalion of 100 troops would be equal to an enemy battalion of 100 troops. You cannot reroll generals, a general has a 1/15 chance of dying per day.

One thing I haven’t said that I want to do this year is get a branding identity, and redesign my personal site (lindsey.studio). It’s garbage on mobile and not really good for anything other than looking pretty. (I am proud of it though, I’ve seen many other OS-homescreen style sites and none are as functional as mine.) I want to make it a more normal site, with a blog.

I am proud to say I’ve made a lot of progress on the wasteof iOS app (still don’t have a unique name)

I added posting and profile pages, as well as pinning posts, reposting, following, deleting posts, and more. Very soon I will be sending out a beta version. If you use an iPhone, let me know if you want to try it.
