Mild politics warning

One of the more interesting contradictions I find with Elon Musk is his distain for Wikipedia, not just because he used to like it and understand why it's a valuable website, but also because he literally benefits from how it functions.

If you look at the Community Notes feature on Twitter, it's functions in a similar manner to Wikipedia. On Wikipedia, when someone edits an article and claims something, it can be verified by anyone since Wikipedia requires citations from reliable sources, on top of that, there are “Talk” pages for every article where users can discuss changes and improvements to articles. Now look at Community Notes, when a tweet claims something, users can write notes that add context or fact check the tweet, these notes require a citation to be added from a reliable source, they are then voted upon by other users, and are eventually displayed if it gets voted positively enough from a diverse array of users.

I dunno about you, but these two systems sound kinda similar, both are volunteer driven, push for neutrality by getting diverse groups to come to a decision, and emphasize sourcing from reliable places. Yet Elon complains how Wikipedia is biased, but then touts Community Notes as a perfect system, yet calls it biased when it correct him.

It's funny how Elon hates Wikipedia yet has implemented a system that is essentially a Wikipedia that corrects him directly. Maybe he doesn't like it when folks point out when he lies?

its impressive and depressing at the same time that ok computer by radiohead is just as if not more relevant now than when it released in 1997. been relistening recently to it and it’s hitting pretty hard.

Some thoughts on wasteof4 after using it for a few days:

  1. The overall look is vibrant and a lot more visually interesting than wasteof2, and I’d say it builds upon and combines the best elements of wasteof2 and wasteof3.

  2. The more heavy use of users chosen profile colours is a nice addition (especially how links and posts get highlighted with the user’s chosen colour).

  3. It’s stupidly fast.

  4. The new layout for settings is amazing, I had to highlight it specifically just because it is such a step up from wasteof2, it’s easier to understand, and just pleasing to look at.

  5. The little details are nice, like the spinning cog when a page is loading, or how the “X” to close the post composer uses the “𝕏” - which I think is funny. Even the little animation when opening/closing the post composer, or how the text box expands automatically when you start typing in a comment section. It just feels nice.

  6. I did notice emoji are getting rounded when they shouldn’t be, and I think a more clear visual indicator for when you need to scroll to see more of a post when it’s too long would be helpful.

Overall really liking what we’re seeing with wasteof4, daily driving it now on my main account, especially as the Space Grotesk font being used makes it easier to read for me with dyslexia. Excited to see it develop more!

happy to announce a fresh and exciting new rebrand for @da-ta!

Hello I’m going to scream about the dumbest and most needless rebrand I’ve seen this year so far and that’s Microsoft Office. As you all likely know, Microsoft Office is the productivity suite comprising apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more. The Office name has been used since at least the early 90s. However, in 2022, they renamed Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365, for some reason…

I still ponder to this day as to why, it simply makes it more vague, Office is a clear name whereas the new one at the time could be for anything? Microsoft is the parent company name that comprises Windows, Xbox, Azure, etc. Naming Office just “Microsoft” with 365 at the end is pointless, especially when Office 365 was already a part of the brand prior.

But now in 2025 when Microsoft is only interested in shoving AI down everyone’s throats, they’ve decided to rename Microsoft 365 to Microsoft 365 Copilot (aka M365) and use the Copilot logo with a little label.

I legit don’t even know why. They’ve now made it where the Copilot app and M365 icons look almost identical, which will confuse people. Not just that, but all 3 brand names are in use right now. Office is still used for perpetual licence versions, Microsoft 365 still appears for the subscription version and M365 is used for the app names and online apps. They are smashing 3 different brands together like some Frankenstein’s monster when you could just call it Office and keep Copilot as a separate brand. Utterly baffling decisions.
